Участники SIC! Александр Маркварт, Степан Качалин и Максим Евстропов оказались в Стамбуле после 17 марта 2022. Турция подействовала отрезвляюще: мы были вырваны из российской ситуации, прежде казавшейся уникальной, при этом снова столкнулись с имперской ностальгией, с представлением об «особом пути», продиктованном географическим положением между Европой и Азией, с желанием собрать «тюркский мир» и культивацией «традиционных ценностей». В какой-то момент Эрдоган даже объявил очередную «специальную военную операцию» против курдов… (впрочем, у турецкой ситуации есть и принципиальное отличие от рф: в Турции довольно сильная и разная оппозиция, и то самое «несогласие», которое как раз и составляет публичную политику, далеко ещё не искоренено).
Мы назвали альбом Empire, будучи, как говорят, носителями «имперского вируса», обрекающего на проклятие и распад всё, к чему мы ни прикоснёмся. В один из первых наших дней в Турции мы о чём-то горячо спорили с нашей подругой турчанкой и другом британцем, как вдруг нам всем стало смешно, оттого что мы поняли, что все мы – представители «империй», прошлых и настоящих.
Мы жили в Стамбуле на острове Бююкада, где нас приютила наша украинская подруга Диана. Запись фиксирует наш путь с острова на пароме до Азиатской части и переход в Европейскую с остановками как в довольно случайных пунктах (под мостом или в тоннеле), так и в местах туристической аттракции (Девичья башня, Галатский мост). Все точки маршрута объединяет вода Мраморного моря.
К записи прилагаются 2 вида артефактов (на выбор):
1) Фрагменты швартовочного каната.
Паромы, соединяющие острова с материком и курсирующие между Европейской и Азиатской частями Стамбула стали для нас жизненно важным транспортом – воплощённой метафорой. Кусок действующего троса отрезан с разрешения команды корабля.
2) Безделушки-бижу, купленные у старьёвщика.
Старьёвщики с тележками, полными всякого хлама – от обрезков металлических труб до сотовых телефонов – до сих пор распространённое в Стамбуле явление. Эти тележки будто бы служат транспортом-метафорой для старых, странных, вышедших из употребления вещей, торят им путь прямо там, где толчея и мельтешение жизни.

Members of SIC! Alexander Markvart, Stepan Kachalin and Maxim Evstropov found themselves in Istanbul after March 17, 2022. Turkey had a sobering effect: we were torn out of the russian situation, which had previously seemed unique, and at the same time again faced with imperial nostalgia, with the idea of a “special path” dictated by geographical location between Europe and Asia, with the desire to bring together a “Turkic world” and the cultivation of “traditional values”. At some point, Erdogan even announced another “special military operation” against the Kurds... (however, the Turkish situation also has a fundamental difference from the russian federation: in Turkey there is quite a strong and varied opposition, and that very “disagreement” that constitutes public policy is far from eradicated).
We called the album Empire, being, as they say, carriers of the “imperial virus” dooming everything we touch to curse and decay. On one of our first days in Turkey, we were heatedly arguing about something with a Turkish and a British friend, when suddenly we all started laughing because we realized that we were all representatives of “empires”, past and present.
We lived in Istanbul on the island of Büyükada, where our Ukrainian friend Diana sheltered us. The recording documents our journey from the island by ferry to the Asian part of the city and the transition to the European part, with stops both at rather random points (under a bridge or in a tunnel) and at places of tourist attraction (Maiden Tower, Galata Bridge). All points on the route were united by waters of the Sea of Marmara.
There are 2 kinds of artifacts attached to the recording (to choose from):
1) Fragments of a mooring rope.
Ferries connecting the islands to the mainland and running between the European and Asian parts of Istanbul have become vital transport for us – an embodied metaphor. A piece of a functioning hawser was cut off with the permission of a ship's crew.
2) Bijou trinkets bought from a junkman.
Ragmongers with carts full of all sorts of rubbish – from scraps of metal pipes to cell phones – are still a common phenomenon in Istanbul. Their carts seem to serve as a transport-metaphor for old, strange, obsolete things, paving their way right where the crowd and flickering of life are
